ABOUT US

The Science and Artistry at Mary Beth’s Custom Framing Studio

Mary Beth's Custom Framing Studio is the vision of Mary Beth van der Horst, whose dual degrees in Art and Biology from Coastal Carolina University shape the studio’s unique approach. After leading the framing department at AC Moore, Mary Beth established her own studio in Myrtle Beach’s Surfside Industrial Park following the retailer’s closure in 2019. Here, every frame, mount, and shadow box is crafted for both beauty and scientific preservation. Our mission goes beyond decor—it’s about conservation. We use archival materials, chemical stabilization, and reversible mounting to safeguard artwork, memorabilia, and heirlooms for generations. This dedication to museum-quality framing stems from Mary Beth’s education and experience, setting us apart from chain stores. Our studio is also a family affair: Mary Beth leads design, her husband Cole manages cutting and joining, and her mother assists with assembly, while baby Arthur is our studio mascot. This multi-generational team ensures every client receives both technical excellence and heartfelt care. Whether you need custom framing, archival preservation, or expert textile mounting, our story is about treating your treasures like our own.

ABOUT US

Our Family Legacy: Trust, Preservation, and Community Roots

Mary Beth’s Custom Framing Studio is the beginning of a family legacy. What started as the passion of an individual, it has extended to incorporate the whole family it supports. Mary Beth’s husband, Cole, has taken on the expertise of frame building, her mother, Chris, and friend, Joanne, both enjoy fitting and finishing frames, and her children, Damian and Arthur, have both served as greeters and mascots for the little studio. Customers become friends and by extension, part of the family as well. Mary Beth, a Myrtle Beach native, is deeply rooted in the community and invested in making sure the greater Grand Strand area has access to the highest caliber of framing services. As members of the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) since 2020, this shop stays on the cutting edge of preservation research, constantly updating to reflect the best techniques and materials to protect every different type of art in need of framing.
