Answers to Your Framing & Preservation FAQs

Whether you’re a seasoned collector, a needlepoint enthusiast, or new to custom framing in Myrtle Beach, our FAQ covers everything you need to know about archival techniques, service options, turnaround times, and more.

  • What makes your custom framing approach different from big-box stores?

At Mary Beth’s Custom Framing Studio, every project is approached as a blend of art and science. Led by Mary Beth, who holds degrees in both Art and Biology, we use only archival, museum-quality materials—never glue or staples—and employ reversible mounting techniques. Our family-run studio in Surfside Industrial Park delivers personalized service, expert guidance, and the technical precision needed to stabilize and preserve your art, textiles, and memorabilia for generations. This expertise sets us apart from mass-market and chain store framers in the Myrtle Beach area.

  • What types of items can be framed or preserved at your studio?

From paintings and works on paper to textiles and dimensional objects, every project is evaluated individually to ensure it is both protected and presented at its best. What truly sets the studio apart, however, is a willingness to take on creative and unconventional projects that go beyond standard framing.

    This may include:

    • Custom painted mats and frames tailored to the artwork

    • Backlit or illuminated pieces, including stained glass

    • Magnetized or interactive designs for functional display

    • One of a kind solutions built around the artwork itself

  • How do you ensure the preservation and longevity of textiles and heirlooms?

Our preservation-first approach is rooted in scientific care. Mary Beth’s background in Biology guides the careful selection of acid-free, archival materials and reversible mounting methods designed to protect delicate textiles. For example, pinning is commonly used for cross stitch, while lacing is often preferred for needlepoint, allowing each piece to be supported without introducing stress or damage. Every technique is chosen based on the structure and needs of the specific textile. From treasured family needlework to heirloom pieces meant to last for generations, each project is handled with museum-minded standards to prevent chemical deterioration and maintain lasting beauty, even in the coastal climate of Myrtle Beach.

  • Can I preview my custom frame design before committing?

Absolutely! Our Virtual Framer software lets you visualize your artwork with different mat and molding combinations in real time—even superimposed on a photo of your actual wall. This reduces ‘design anxiety’ and helps you make confident decisions, especially if you struggle to picture the final result. This tool is available in-studio and by appointment, and is a favorite among Myrtle Beach collectors, interior designers, and newcomers to custom framing.

  • What is your turnaround time and how do I get started?

Most custom framing projects are completed within 2–3 weeks, depending on complexity and materials. Embroidery finishing and object framing may require additional time for specialty mounting. To get started, call Mary Beth directly at 843-839-1393 to discuss your project, or visit our studio Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Surfside Industrial Park. We recommend making an appointment for complex or high-value items to ensure dedicated service.

  • Do you offer frame repair or restoration services?

Yes, we repair wooden frames and replace broken glass. Our restoration services are intentionally limited to structural frame repair, glass replacement, color matching, and filling minor cracks or chips in paintings. We do not perform ornate Victorian or gilded restoration and are not licensed art conservators. If a piece requires specialized conservation work beyond our scope, we will be honest about those limitations so you can seek a qualified conservator, many of whom are located outside the Myrtle Beach area.

  • Why does technical expertise matter for art and textile framing?

Technical expertise is crucial in preventing irreversible damage to valuable art and textiles. Mary Beth’s dual degrees in Art and Biology mean every frame is designed with both aesthetic harmony and scientific preservation in mind—protecting against acid burn, light damage, and other risks. This level of care is especially important for investment pieces, family heirlooms, and award-winning works, making our studio the trusted choice for clients across the Grand Strand.
